With the iPhone v4.0  slated to be launched this week, there are few rumours going around that the latest version of iPhone will be sizzled wid a 5 mpx camera with flash and zoom, Video chat enabled, Hyper threading technology enabled dual core processor, multitasking enabled and a lot of openness in the interface which is the most annoying feature in iPhones according to a User survey. Below is a predicted image of what it may look like:

Apple has takes a full 360 on their "single app at a time" policy and will include full support for multitasking in their next iPhone OS 4. In fact Apple is considering enabling a hyperthreading-like technology in their next iPhone model -- which already has a  dual-core processor --  to enable better multitasking.

The next iPhone will also have a fully multitouch body giving iPhone lovers a greater surface area to caress. After evaluating how iPhone users utilize their devices using the embedded data recording and reporting application, Apple has decided to increase the number of multi-touch points to 25. The phone will also feature multiple vibration levels, although developer access to those will only be available though as-yet, unpublished APIs.

In a surprising move, the App store approval process will be entirely removed. Owners of applerejectedme.com have voiced their protests, and are considering legal action. The website had just gone through a renovation aimed to drive away people looking for dating advice.

In another Apple Store policy change, with iPhone OS 4.0 the Apple App Store license agreement -- which has been compared by some as directly signing their souls over to Lucifer Himself -- is being reviewed. Application developers will now be required to pay Apple in case of any delays in the review process. While developers are understandably flummoxed and angry, iPhone users are rejoicing. As one Apple fan tweets "Finally the lazy developers are going to be held accountable for delayed updates and app releases."

We always look forward to Apple products, since they have propensity to redefine the field they set foot in – the iPod and the iPhone serving as prime examples of this!

Rumours have been flying for some time about Apple working on a tablet PC, and now, iLounge has got what we will – as ridiculous as it sounds – call “the most detailed rumours yet”. Here's the big news up front: it will be introduced to the world on January 19, and subsequently released to retail in May or June, like the iPhone!

One of the significant pieces of information contained in this post seem to be the fact that it runs the iPhone OS! In fact, it even looks like an iPhone, with the same characteristic curved back. It will supposedly come in two versions, with and without 3G support, paralleling it further with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The ‘iPad’ – as iLounge prefers to call it (and so do we) – will supposedly feature a 10.7-inch screen (up from 7-inch from the first prototype) and will have 5 to 6 times the resolution of the iPhone. It can quite obviously be expected to leverage the same multi-touch technology that has left the iPhone with no serious competitor.

Targeted more as a ‘media player and light communication device’, it is not a competitor to netbooks (if nothing else, it will undoubtedly be much more expensive!). iLounge is reporting that the device will be used for reading e-books, magazines and cropped newspapers.

While a bit of oomph is but expected in an Apple product, the bit about the iPhone OS is worrisome. On a device like the iPhone, 85,000 applications seem like a big deal, and the limited scope of the device means most people won't miss applications that don't make it to the store.

However, a device like the iPad is closer to a personal computer than a smartphone, and as much as Apple wouldn’t like to be compared, it’s akin to a netbook. In this case, the reliance on third-party applications will be greater, making the review process even more counter-productive.

Apple's policies like not being allowed to replace the browser, or using undocumented API, will be a much bigger hurdle here. The AppStore will certainly be a powerful source of applications to begin with, but a product of this nature needs a freer ecosystem.

Additionally, the lack of a good keyboard input (so far) is a bit unsettling. Sure, the iPhone has a wonderful virtual keyboard, but the same wouldn’t be quite as usable on a 10-inch tablet. Hopefully Apple will come up with something as revolutionary as the iPhone keyboard to make up for the lack of a physical one.

With a much larger screen and higher resolution, this device could serve as a competitor to the growing number of eBook readers. Asus has already talked of a dual-screen multi-touch EEE e-reader costing under $200, Microsoft has been reported to be working on the Courier tablet, and Michael Arrington has been hard at work on his CrunchPad, aiming to keep the price under $400. Unless Apple has a great pricing plan in store for the iPad, we think this one is going to be relegated to the shelves of Mac fanboys…

Apple is warning users of the iPod and iPhone that they could well receive a small and quick electrical (static) shock from their earbuds while using the devices.

Apple issued a warning on its site that goes something like this -

When using headphones in areas where the air is very dry, it is easy to build up static electricity and possible for your ear to receive a small electrostatic discharge from the headphones. Receiving a static shock from a pair of earbuds does not necessarily indicate an issue with the iPod, iPhone, or earbuds.

This condition is very similar to dragging your feet across a carpet and receiving a static shock by touching a door knob. However, instead of the static charge building up on your body, the charge builds up on the device that the earbuds are connected to. Likewise, instead of the static buildup discharging through your finger when you touch a door knob, it discharges through the earbuds.

It goes on to mention that this condition is not limited to Apple hardware and that static can potentially build up on almost any hardware and could be discharged using any brand of earbuds.

The warning then goes on to list the things iPod and iPhone users should do to avoid receiving a shock.

A discussion thread on the company's support shows a number of people expressing their concern over the issue and some even complaining of receiving those shocks.

Hang onto your headsets people, Apple has previewed their Apple iPhone OS 3.0 software and it’s a doozy!!! The beta software release to registered developers is going to be available immediately. The MMS feature will finally enable users to send and receive photos, contacts, audio files and locations with the Messages app; and also allow them to capture and send audio recordings on the go with the new Voice Memo app. Search capabilities will be expanded, allowing customers to search within Mail, iPod and Notes or search across all key apps by typing a key word or phrase into the new Spotlight search, conveniently accessed from the Home screen. Included in the APIs is the ability to leverage the incredible purchase model of the App Store within apps. In-App Purchases will allow developers to offer subscription content and provide the ability to sell new content and features in a simple and secure process. Developers can also more easily create peer-to-peer games for iPhone and iPod touch by using Bluetooth.

Another key developer feature in the iPhone OS 3.0 beta software is the ability for apps to interface with hardware accessories, creating a whole new element of control for iPhone and iPod touch accessory developers as well as a new ecosystem of solutions for customers. Developers will also be able to use Apple’s new Maps API to integrate Google Mobile Maps services within their apps which will offer Google Map tiles, current location, custom annotations and geocoding. The iPhone OS 3.0 beta software includes the Apple Push Notification service which provides developers with a mechanism to alert users with sounds, text or a badge.

It's been a long time coming. Sure, we've had the first-gen iPhone in India in some form or the other ever since it launched in the US, but hey, "official" is always better than "nothing official". Let's dive into Apple's coolness box and see what the iPhone 3G, which is available in India starting Aug. 22nd, brings to the table.

For your convenience, and to make it snappy, we've skipped the parts which are similar from the first-gen iPhone to the new 3G variant, you can read a review of the last iPhone here . We've split the review into four parts. First, we answer a few basic questions you might have, second, obviously, are the "Good Bits", then some "Bad Bits", and finally, the "whys" behind the Rating / Conclusion.

For those of you who are in a hurry to get a confirmation on the prices, our original article about the iPhone pricing was right. Yes, the iPhone is priced at a hefty Rs. 31,000 for the 8GB version, and Rs. 36,100 for the 16GB version. Obviously, that also means you get it without any contract or postpaid plan whatsoever. You can use it with either a Prepaid or a Postpaid SIM card, and pick absolutely any plan you like (though Vodafone and Airtel may also launch some iPhone specific plans as well).

Sadly, the phone is going to be operator-locked. So, if you buy an iPhone 3G from Airtel, you can't use it on Vodafone, and vice versa. It goes without saying that using it on any other GSM network isn't possible, so those of you on IDEA, BSNL or any other provider will have to wait a long time till you can get an official iPhone that runs on your network without any hacks.

The iPhone will be sold at Airtel and Vodafone stores nationwide, and some Apple Exclusive resellers may also stock it. From what information we've been able to gather, the quantity of iPhones coming to India is pretty small as compared to the demand that the operators have gauged with their Pre-Booking offers, so expect it to be sold out pretty fast, regardless of the price, unless Apple increases their shipments to India (which I am sure they will, once they see the demand).

We also have a confirmation on the fact that iPhone's cool value added, but operator dependent feature, Visual Voicemail, will not be launching in India. Also, the iTunes store will only work for Application Downloads (i.e. App Store), and will not allow users to buy Music, Videos or Movies just about yet. Obviously, you'll need an Indian credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express) to sign up for iTunes to download applications, even those that are free.

That's enough of the FAQs, now let's get down to the good bits on the new iPhone 3G. Move to the next page to continue reading more.

The exact arrival date and the price of the iPhone 3G has been a pretty well-kept secret so far.  But now via our contact in Vodafone (who wish to remain anonymous) we can confirm that the iPhone 3G will be coming to India to Vodafone as soon as the end this month or early August 2008.

As for the pricing, all we know is that it’s not going to be a direct conversion of the US price to Rupees.

With regard to availability, since Airtel and Vodafone have been allowing preorders, it’s quite possible that the entries they have received will quite easily surpass the quantity they get. Our source at Vodafone said that depending on how the first few days' sales pan out they will order more devices from the UK.

Stay tuned for more. When we know you will too.

Design
First off, Apple has refurbished the design a bit and the iPhone 3G is now slimmer than the last model. They’ve also added a new color to the line up – White - but that’s only available with the 16GB model. The other models will now have a glossy black rear casing, and I’m tempted to wonder, why go with a finger print magnet? The earphone socket has also been adjusted to accommodate normal 3.5mm pins, so users can simply plug in any headphone of their choice. Instead of a simple flat back it now also tapers a bit to give it a sleeker look and feel. Everything else design-wise hasn’t changed too much. Considering the fact that the new handset supports 3G and should support Video calling there still doesn’t seem to be a secondary camera located in front, so i guess that's not happening anytime soon then.

Features
Not only is the new iPhone 3G going to be faster than the previous model it’s also going to have a better battery life, which according to Apple would be 5 hours of talk time. One of the few rumors I’m happy to say are true, is the fact that the new iPhone 3G is going to be equipped with an integrated GPS unit along with a few other location-based services to help enhance that feature especially with Google Maps live tracking and photo Geotagging.

Some of the ‘bugs’ that have been fixed include an option for deleting emails in bulk, a new Contact search feature for looking up names in the address book and complete support for viewing Microsoft as well as iWork documents. It will also have a new scientific calculator. But the best part with the handset, at least for the business users, is the total enterprise support that the iPhone 3G comes with. Besides just that, it will also support Push email, Push contacts, Push calendar, Auto-discovery of Exchange servers, Global address lookup, and a Remote Wipe security feature. Wowee!
